The R.B. Simms WTF Emergency Generator Replacement project delivered a new 2 MV generator to provide additional backup generation for the plant during power outages. This generator also allows the Owner to shed power to Duke Energy when requested. The project included a new 2 MW generator, an enclosure, a transformer, a switchboard, and Tier 4 emissions requirements. An existing 1.25 MW generator was removed along with its foundation and new conduits, and new wire was installed below a new foundation for a completely new electrical system up to the existing switchgear. The result of this project was delivering the necessary backup generation to continue to provide quality water to the community.
INNOVATIVE METHODS
Since the new generator was much larger and additional conduits were needed, Harper decided to install a completely new foundation with all the conduits below.
