Proterra is well known for the electric buses they manufacture. This project provided them with a new facility to assemble the large batteries they use in their buses as well as for other 3rd party applications. This project was delivered as improvements to the 327,139 SF Carolina Commerce Center Speculative Warehouse Shell we completed in 2020. The improvements include a 42,350 SF, 24’ clear conditioned enclosure that houses the battery production line. Extensive electrical, fire protection & mechanical support scopes were provided to support the production line equipment. Ancillary supporting scopes for the facility include a large data server room with a dedicated chiller, overhead cranes, premium dock equipment positions, R&D labs, and class “A” employee areas. The improvements also included a 60,000 SF, two-story Class “A” corporate office area. The office includes a mezzanine overlooking the production enclosure and the 1st-floor office space. High-end finishes included ornamental stairwells, specialty ceiling packages, polished concrete, intricate carpet design, a two-story showroom space, and a large cafeteria.
